"From its start, Islam was the religion of power. In its (Sunni) theology, Allah is pure omnipotence and unlimited will. Islam without power makes about as much sense as Christianity without Christ. Lewis’s statement differentiates Islam from Christianity with respect to the separation of the sacred from the secular, but it also helps explain the deep sense of grievance and humiliation Muslims feel when power is not theirs. Christians are not thrown into spiritual confusion or theological doubt if they do not control the state because Christianity does not require the exercise of power for its fulfillment. Islam does."
